On Saturday, April 19, Peru State College celebrated more than just a pair of thrilling home games — it marked a historic moment for the college and its athletic programs. With the opening of the new Diamond Building at the Centennial Complex, the campus witnessed its first new construction in over 40 years. BigIron was proud to be a part of this major milestone, sponsoring the tailgate for the doubleheader baseball and softball games held on the college’s Senior Day.
More than 400 attendees — over four times the usual crowd — gathered to watch Peru State’s baseball team face MidAmerica Nazarene and the softball team take on Baker. Families traveled from across the country and beyond to be part of the celebration, with supporters joining from California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Iowa, North and South Dakota, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and China. The crowd, fueled by team spirit and great food, cheered on their teams and celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new facility, which provides much-needed locker rooms, offices, and training areas for both teams.
BigIron set up a bright yellow tent for the event, serving food and offering a welcoming space for fans. As part of their support, BigIron also provided custom yellow t-shirts for all players and coaches, making a bold and unified statement of pride on the field.
“BigIron was proud to help sponsor this event and support Peru State College as they invest in the future of student-athletes,” said Mark Stock, BigIron Co-Owner. “It was great to see the community come together and celebrate something truly meaningful.”
The event held special significance for BigIron Territory Manager Jeff Gerdes, a proud Peru State College alum who has continued to support college initiatives over the years. “As a graduate of Peru State, it means a lot to come back and be part of moments like this,” said Gerdes. “I’m proud to represent a company like BigIron that gives back and supports student success — on and off the field.”
In addition to Stock and Gerdes, several BigIron representatives were on hand to support the festivities, including Ryan Marthaler (NE State Manager), Dani Olson (Multi-Media Manager), and Shayne Zutavern (BigIron Realty Agent). The Auburn Bombers 10U team also made a special appearance, warming up with the Peru State baseball team and sharing in the excitement of the day.
Dignitaries in attendance included Dr. Paul Turman, Chancellor of the Nebraska State College System, and members of the Peru State College Foundation Board, who gathered with fans and students to witness the ribbon cutting.
It was a day full of energy, community, and celebration — and BigIron was honored to play a part in supporting the growth of Peru State College’s athletic legacy.
