BIGIRON SHARE YOUR LEGACY: PRESERVING THE TRADITION OF FARMING FAMILIES IN AMERICA

Written by BigIron Auctions | Sep 20, 2023

Farming is an integral part of America's economy and heritage. For centuries, farming families have worked hard to provide food for the nation, while preserving a way of life that values hard work, self-reliance, and community. In recent years, however, farming has become increasingly challenging, as farmers face rising costs, changing weather patterns, and increased competition from global markets. Despite these challenges, many farming families continue to persevere, adapting to changing conditions and passing down their legacy from one generation to the next.

BigIron, a leading online auction marketplace for agricultural equipment, understands the importance of farming families to our country. That's why they've launched the Share Your Legacy video series, which celebrates the stories of farming families across America. Through these videos, viewers can learn about the challenges and rewards of farming, as well as the unique traditions and values that have been passed down through generations of families.

The Share Your Legacy video series features interviews with farmers from around the country. These farmers share their stories of growing up on family farms, learning the ropes from their parents and grandparents, and working hard to keep their farms running in the face of changing economic and environmental conditions.

In one video, viewers meet the Alversons  whose family farm has been going strong for six generations. Keith Alversons, the youngest member actively involved in managing the farm, fondly recollected how he spent his early days as his grandpa's shadow, embracing a deep love for the land. One of his first memories was learning to drive a 1967 730 John Deere tractor, an essential workhorse used for pulling hay wagons and, as Keith's father, Ron, proudly recalled, it was the biggest thing they had back then. For Keith, the Alversons family legacy is more than just a personal one; it's about being part of something greater than oneself. He plans to continue working the land and trying to make it better, and creating opportunities for the next generation, leaving behind a lasting legacy for his family.

In another video, viewers meet the Wettstein family. Their family origin story is unique. Wayne Wettstein, the 3rd generation now running the farm, told us of his great-grandfather, a stow-away on a ship from Germany who immigrated to the United States, ended up in Kansas and started their legacy in agriculture. When Wayne was drafted to Vietnam, his wife Ruthie kept the farm going. Their story is one of perseverance in the wake of hardships and a love of agriculture.

These are just a few examples of the inspiring stories that can be found in the Share Your Legacy video series. Through these videos, viewers can gain a greater appreciation for the hard work and dedication of farming families, as well as the challenges they face in today's world.

In addition, the Share Your Legacy video series also serves as a call to action for viewers. By sharing these videos with others, viewers can help raise awareness of the importance of farming to our country and the challenges facing farmers today. They can also show their support for farming families by purchasing their products at local farmers' markets, or by supporting policies that protect family farms and promote sustainable agriculture.

So, whether you're a farmer yourself, or simply someone who appreciates the value of hard work and community, we encourage you to check out the Share Your Legacy  video series on the BigIron YouTube channel. By watching these videos and sharing them with others, you can help preserve the tradition of farming families in America and ensure that this important legacy continues for generations to come.
